On a daily basis I get asked questions about how to do something in Photoshop so I thought I would share little tips and tricks that will make your editing workflow easier along the way. Today’s tip is about color casts.

Spring is coming.  With Spring comes bright colors such as pinks, blues, and yellows.  As a parent, we love seeing our little ones all dressed up in bright colors but as a photographer, those bright colors leave pesky color casts on the skin.  This quick tip will help you remove them VERY easily and quickly.  If you want to see more tips and tricks please make sure you leave a comment below with something you struggle with.

This beautiful image of Sophia is ALMOST done with the exception of one major problem:  color casts from her dress.

Color casts, how to remove color casts, jamie frayser photography,

To remove the color casts follow these simple steps:

(1) Hit Command J on a Mac or Control J on a PC to create a new layer
(2) Change the layers blend mode to Color

(3) Zoom into the area that needs to be corrected
(4) Option Click an area of the skin that is unaffected
(5) Change your Opacity to 100% and your Flow to 5%
(6) Slowly paint on the affected area with a soft brush until the desired effect is achieved
Here is the final image of Sophia with the color casts removed.  It took just seconds.  Happy editing!

I got to take sweet Lilah into the studio today for a session for Haute Bebe Boutique.  Isn’t this headdress from Squishy Bebe just perfect?  Lilah had so much fun in her “Big Sister” shirt.  It is fun watching Lilah grow her affection towards her sister.  She is so good at singing to her when she cries and wanting to help with the daily chores.  Anytime we start an activity she runs and grabs her stool and says, “I want to help”.  Then she climbs up on it next to you and says “what’s next matey.”  I just adore this sweet girl more than words can say.

Sweet, sweet Lucy.  Lucy is such an amazing little lady.  She is super smiley and expressive.  Her blue, BLUE eyes are stunning and don’t get me started on her lashes.  I can’t even.  I was so excited to meet this special family.  Their love of sweet Lucy shines through.  She is their whole world.  The greatest part about this job is meeting incredible people and getting the opportunity to photograph their little ones.  To smile with them.  To laugh with them.  I look forward to all of the amazing families I will get to work with here in Ohio over the next 2.5 years.

Oh sweet Geneva…how you warm the hearts of those around you.  I was in shock when I got to see sweet Geneva again this week.  The last time I photographed her about six months ago her hair was dark brown.  We forget how quickly these little ladies change in such a short period of time.  She walked in sporting her new sandy locks of curly hair and those oh so big blue eyes.  So many things make this little lady unique.  In just a short period of time I learned that if you want to see this sweet girl dance it up, and I mean DANCE IT UP, play the Star Wars theme song (I think her daddy may be a little proud by this).  I don’t think I have laughed so hard in a long time.

Doesn’t she look lovely in her Well Dressed Wolf  Mint & Magnolia dress from The Borrowed Boutique?  The green is so, so pretty!

I jumped with joy when The Borrowed Boutique selected me to photograph some of their beautiful pieces.  One of my favorites was the Well Dressed Wolf Grace Bubble in Linen & Lace.  So, so cute.  Of COURSE I had to photograph it on my sweet Lilah.  As soon as she got it on she started dancing around like a kid in a candy store.  If I have learned one thing over the years is that styling your shoot is a key pillar to success.  Never before has it been so easy to add incredible clothing pieces to your styling at a cost affordable to most.  That is the great thing about The Borrowed Boutique.  They will send you dresses and other pieces from some of the best boutique clothing companies to use for any occasion for a reasonable rental fee.  These pieces really make the little ladies in our lives feel like princesses.  Just remember, they will only be this small once…capture them while you can.

Sometimes photographers are oh so guilty of neglecting their own sweet children. The kind of neglect where we photograph our friends, clients, and our own family members but never freeze a frame of our own little ones. Sometimes you forget that they too want to dress up in beautiful gowns and dance among the balloons in shades of pink and gold. And just sometimes you need to find time to side aside your schedule and take your own sweet little ones out. I finally found that time; something just for the two of us. I ordered a beautiful Tutu Du Monde dress from Rainey’s Closet and booked some studio space with Lost and Found Vintage Rentals.

Needless to say….I am so in LOVE with the sweet images I was able to capture of my Lilah. Here is a sneak peek. I can’t wait to share more.
